Wilbert Victor Schwickerath age 87 of New Hampton died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016, at New Hampton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Washington with Rev. Brian Dellaert celebrating the Mass. The organist is Ann Bennett accompanying the Immaculate Conception Men's Choir in song. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, North Washington.Visitation will be at 8:30 a.m. Friday morning at the church.  Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home - New Hampton is assisting the family.  Online condolences for Wilbert’s family may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.comWilbert Victor Schwickerath was born August 2, 1929 in North Washington, the son of Nick and Dora (Papenheim) Schwickerath. He attended North Washington Catholic School in his younger years. Wilbert then started to help his father on the family farm.  Farming was the thing he enjoyed the most. He continued farming until the 1980’s when he began working for the New Hampton School District as a janitor. After his janitorial work he started as a technician for the Natural Resource Conservation Service in New Hampton and continued working there until his retirement.Wilbert loved the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed watching their games and keeping up on how they were doing. He always read the Des Moines Register and kept up with current events as well. Other hobbies he was interested in included gardening, baking and visiting with people outside Fareway or Kwik Star. He will always be remembered for his sharp mind and quick sense of humor.He is survived by many nieces and nephews; also many great and great-great nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alvin Schwickerath, Paul Schwickerath and Richard Schwickerath; two sisters, Valery Gebel and Mildred Schwickerath; two nephews Mike and Merlyn Schwickerath.
