Wayne Albert was born July 28, 1930, in New Hampton to Albert and Clyta (Schroeder) Schumacher.
He attended country schools, and when he completed his education, he worked on the Schumacher family farm until he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was stationed in Japan until his honorable discharge in 1953.
Upon his return home, he worked a short period at B&P silo plant before working on road construction.
On Dec. 22, 1956, Wayne was united in marriage to Nadine Gemmill at Presbyterian Church in Armstrong.
The couple made their home in Armstrong before eventually settling in New Hampton in 1964.
Wayne went to work for Chickasaw County — maintaining roads until his retirement in 1995.
Retirement was short lived, lasting a total of 42 seconds.  Wayne went on to happily work another 19 years for AgVantage FS driving truck.  He would still be driving if his health would’ve allowed.
He was proud of the fact that he’d driven 75 years without receiving a traffic violation.
During his time away from work, Wayne enjoyed trips to Minnesota, fishing, bus tours, polka festivals, playing cards and sitting under his favorite shade tree waving at passersby. His grandchildren were the light of his life.
Those left to cherish Wayne’s memories are his wife, Nadine, of 62 years; his children, Carol (Bob) Gorman of New Hampton, Randy (Bonnie) Schumacher of Aurora, Ill., and Jennifer Schumacher of Cresco; his grandchildren, Brad (Kathy) Gorman, Meghan and Amanda Ferch, and Julie Schumacher; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Donna (Don) Swehla.
