Trojans squeeze out two one-run victories

Lead Summary

Turkey Valley proved the old cliché is true. Baseball is a game of inches.A South Winn missed-by-inches catch in game one when the teams played Thursday let the winning TV run come across the plate and in game two, Turkey Valley made a close catch to end the game. Both were Trojan wins, 5-4 in game one and 9-8 in the nitecap.Coach Dan Stepan has been on the other end of the scenario as the Trojans dropped a pair of one-run games against Edgewood-Colesburg a couple of weeks ago.“I don't know if these make up for [the losses], because coaches always think they can win those one-run games,” he said. “But it was good to execute late and win those close games.”Tied 4-4 going into the bottom of the seventh inning of the first contest, Evan Drilling started the Trojan at-bat with a single and Cale Reicks beat out a bunt for a hit.The rest of the story may be found in the July 5 Tribune.
