Tough title day

Lead Summary

Here’s a simple math equation that may sum up just how high the expectations are for the New Hampton wrestling team:   A Class 2A sectional team title + eight district qualifiers = a somewhat disappointing day.  Yet, one of those district qualifiers may have summed it up perfectly late Saturday afternoon when he basically said nothing’s changed when it comes to the goals the Chickasaws set when they first gathered in the wrestling room back in November.  “I know we expected more than eight moving on,” senior Noah Hopp said, “but everyone — including the guys who didn’t [advance] has to realize that we have to be all in, that we can still win state titles.”  New Hampton easily won Saturday’s team title — piling up 251.5 points, 44.5 more than runner-up Crestwood — and both the Chickasaws and Cadets qualified for Tuesday's regional duals.  For all of the New Hampton results, please see the Feb. 7 Tribune.
