Berst age 81 of New Hampton, died Sunday, July 31, 2016 at New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 Friday, August 5, 2016, at Holy Family Parish in New Hampton with Rev. Brian Dellaert celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Lawler.Friends may greet the family 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 2016 at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Friday.  Online condolences for Thresa’s family may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.comThresa Ann Berst was born April 15, 1935, in New Hampton, the daughter of Frank T. and Clara Mary (Brincks) Franzen. She received her education in Waucoma.  On October 2, 1954, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Hampton, she married Adrian Arnold Berst. To this union five children were born. The couple lived in Lawler until moving to New Hampton in 1997. Thresa had numerous house cleaning jobs in the area and also worked with her husband cleaning the State Bank of Lawler for over 20 years and the Father Moran Center in Lawler for over 22 years. Thresa was a devoted Catholic saying the rosary nearly every day. She loved time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Survivors include three sons, Thomas (Marlys) Berst of Lawler, Timothy Berst of Waukee,Todd (Carla) Berst of Waucoma; two daughters, Diane (Bill) Veach of Rossville, Ga., Dawn (David) Schulz of Ionia; nine grandchildren, Daniel (Angie Mangrich) Berst, Tamara (Dave) Lickteig, Billy (Katie) Veach, Delilah Veach, Michelle (Nick) Phillis, Victoria Berst, Noelle Berst, GeneAnne Berst, Adrianna Schulz; seven great-grandchildren, Avery Berst, Cole Lickteig, Taylor Lickteig, Emma Veach, Chloe Veach, Jack Veach and Noah Phillis; two sisters-in-law, Valeria Franzen, Delores Franzen, both of New Hampton.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on May 8, 2001; four brothers, Arnold Franzen, Edmund Franzen, Clarence Franzen and Cletus Franzen; three sisters, Edwina Schoeben, Elizabeth Eichenberger and Bernice Kloster.
