Quick opener

Lead Summary

The New Hampton volleyball team may not have been in mid-season form Tuesday night when the Chickasaws opened the 2017 volleyball season with a sweep of Nashua-Plainfield.    But boy oh boy, the Chickasaws showed the potential they have as they rolled to 25-13, 25-18, 25-18 victory over the Huskies.    “The first match of the season is always a bit rocky,” New Hampton coach Jess Geerts said, “but we have some athletic girls who may not be 6-foot but can move and jump.”    The Chickasaws showed off their depth as nine players recorded kills and overcame an injury to Maddi Moorman midway through the second set on their way to the win.    Moorman was brilliant in the first 1 1/2 sets — recording five kills on just six attacks, coming up with a block and going 6-for-6 at the service line — before she went down with an ankle injury.
