New Hampton senior commits to the Salukis

Lead Summary

Josh Fenske visited the Southern Illinois University last month and came away impressed.    “I liked the campus. It’s beautiful. I liked the coaches and I felt like it was a good place for me,” he said. “The coaching staff was a key part. ... They have guys who know football and you can look up to, and coach [Nick] Hill is turning things around.”    In other words, the New Hampton senior saw what he needed to see, and on Wednesday, Fenske made a verbal commitment to attend the FCS school that plays in the Missouri Valley Conference.    The Salukis are coming off a 4-7 season in their first season under Hill, who quarterbacked Southern Illinois to the FCS semifinals as a senior in 2007.    “I’m excited for Josh,” New Hampton coach Scott Frerichs said. “He is a great competitor and they’re getting a kid who knows how to work hard.”
