Nashua-Plainfield sends five to state

Lead Summary

Nashua-Plainfield is sending five wrestlers to the Class 1A state tournament, but maybe the biggest surprise Saturday was the fact that senior Jakob Whitinger isn’t one of them.
Garret Rinken (106)  and Trey Nelson (126) both won district titles while Kyler Hackman (132), McKade Munn (138) and Evan Kalainoff (182) all took second to earn trips to Des Moines later this week.
Whitinger, meanwhile, had finished fourth at the state tournament the past two years, but he lost his finals match in overtime to unbeaten Clayton McDonough of Central Springs and then fell 11-4 to Denver’s Joe Ebaugh in a true-second wrestle back.
The Class 1A team tournament opens on Thursday evening at 6 p.m.
