Juniors find ‘fuel’ for next year at this year’s state meet

Lead Summary

It wasn’t where they wanted to end the 2019-20 season, but the fact of the matter is New Hampton/Turkey Valley’s Carson Babcock and Jacob Reicks both knew there were literally thousands of wrestlers in Iowa who would have loved trading places with them Saturday night.
Both Chickasaw juniors found their way onto the medal stand — Babcock as the fourth-place finisher at 160 and Jacob Reicks as the sixth-place finisher at 182 — but for different reasons, it was a bit of a frustrating end for the pair.
Babcock came into the tournament as the No. 2 seed, but after dropping a quarterfinal matchup, he fell into the back side of the bracket, winning three straight matches before falling to Bondurant-Farrar’s ninth-rated Neal Larsen 4-1 in the third-place match.
