Chickasaws take third at the NEIC

Lead Summary

New Hampton was seeded fourth and finished third at the Northeast Iowa Volleyball Tournament Saturday, avenging one loss from earlier in the season but also losing to a team they'd beaten before.  Charles City was undefeated on the day and Waverly-Shell Rock was second.  The day started with a case of hurry up and wait as the Chickasaws were scheduled to play at 9 a.m., but due to a schedule mix-up, when they arrived at the Charles City gym they found they had a first-round bye.  “Long story short, changes were made and not saved,” said coach Jess Geerts. “Oh well, we survived.”  The Chickasaws proceeded to win against their first three opponents — Waukon, Crestwood and Decorah — before losing their final three to Charles City, Waverly-Shell Rock and Oelwein.  Both Waukon and Crestwood were 2-0 Chickasaw wins, but the Crestwood win wasn't easy. After a 21-16, 21-17 win over Waukon in which Ellie Ewert had her high number of kills for the day at 10, Lauren Frerichs added 12 assists and Emma Nicolaisen 10 digs, New Hampton started with a 21-13 win over the Cadets. For the full story, please see the Oct. 18 Tribune.
