Huskies claim five-set victory

Lead Summary

Britney Holthaus and Sydney Hansen never wavered, even as the two Nashua-Plainfield senior volleyball players endured a five-win campaign last season and a 2-10 start this year.     The two played key roles on the Huskies’ runs to the Corn Bowl Conference championship in 2014 and the Top of Iowa Conference East Division title in 2015, but for a season and a half, defeats piled up for the Huskies.     But times are a changing at Nashua-Plainfield, as the Huskies continued their solid play of late with a thrilling five-set victory over St. Ansgar last Thursday.     The 22-25, 26-24, 25-22, 23-25, 15-12 victory was Nashua-Plainfield’s seventh in their last 10 matches and gave the Huskies a 9-13 overall record and a 4-3 Top of Iowa mark.     “I’m not going to say it was always easy,” said Hansen, who had 27 assists and six kills in the match. “At the same time, winning isn’t everything. We still worked hard, still had fun and we knew if we kept doing that, we’d be OK.”
