Chickasaws roll again

Lead Summary

The numbers New Hampton’s baseball team are putting up are downright ridiculous, enough so that Friday’s 11-1 win over Turkey Valley almost seemed ho-hum for Chickasaw fans. Then again, New Hampton leads all Class 2A teams in runs (229), home runs (9), walks (110), hit-by-pitches (39), batting average (.403) and on-base percentage (.548).“They play fundamental baseball,” Turkey Valley coach Dan Stepan said. “Bottom line is we lost to a quality team.”The Chickasaws jumped out to a quick lead as they used two walks, three hit-by-pitches and a pair of hits to go up 5-0.That was more than enough for Ryan Gorman, Noah Hopp and Alex Troyna, who split the mound duties for the Chickasaws and combined for a four-hitter.“It was nice to give some guys a little work on the mound,” New Hampton coach Cory McDonald said. “I think both coach Stepan and I wanted to just get some guys out there, keep them ready but not extend anyone.”More on the story may be found in the June 21 Tribune.
