Chickasaws rebound with 32-6 win

Lead Summary

New Hampton bounced back in a big way Friday night as the Chickasaws used a strong run game and a suffocating defense to roll past Osage 32-6 in Class 2A, District 2 play.
Coach Scott Frerichs team, which had lost 13-7 at Crestwood last week, improved to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in district play.
More importantly, the Chickasaws kept their playoff hopes alive.
New Hampton took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter when Braydon Fisher scored on a 1-yard run, but the Green Devils tied it five minutes later with a Drew Olson quarterback sneak from the one.
But the rest of the game belonged to New Hampton. Fisher scored on runs of 3 and 8 yards in the second quarter as New Hampton built a 20-6 lead in a steady downpour.
The Chickasaws put the game away in the second half as Josh Fenske hauled in a 26-yard touchdown pass from Keagan John, and his younger brother, Noah, picked up a fumble and raced 25 yards into the end zone.
New Hampton forced five turnovers on the night.
“I loved the way our kids came to play,” Frerichs said. “You could see it on the sidelines before the game, and they came out and played some really great football.”
New Hampton remains at home next week when it hosts Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, which is 3-2 in the district after falling to Crestwood 12-9 on Friday.
