Bruce Westendorf, age 66 of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, at Linn Haven Rehab & Healthcare in New Hampton. A private family service will be held at a later date. Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Fredericksburg has been entrusted with Bruce's services.
Bruce Allen Westendorf was born May 29, 1954 in New Hampton, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was the son of Harvey and Burneta (Schwan) Westendorf. He attended high school in Fredericksburg and was a member of the 1973 graduating class.
After high school Bruce went to work for his dad. They did a lot of tiling together and Bruce enjoyed it. He always loved a job that compensated him well. Later he went on to work for Beatrice Cheese and Conagra as a general laborer around the plant. After quite a few years there he went to work at Subway in New Hampton. Bruce was at Subway for around eight years and enjoyed his time there. He liked talking to people as he helped them with their sandwich.
In Bruce’s free time he loved to watch racing. It didn’t matter if it was NASCAR on television or going to the stock car races in Decorah, West Union or Cresco. His favorite driver of all time was Dale Earnhardt. Besides racing he liked to hang out with his friends and family and going for a cruise around town just to pass the time. Monday nights were special to Bruce because his favorite show, Street Outlaws, was always on. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and always liked mowing the lawn. He will be missed by many.
Bruce is survived by three brothers, Mark Westendorf of Fredericksburg, David Westendorf of Sumner, Brian (Paula) Westendorf of Fredericksburg; three nieces, Melissa Westendorf of Rockford, Illinois, Wendy (Jean) Noble of Waterloo, Kelly Westendorf of Fredericksburg; three nephews, Matt (Michelle) Westendorf of Dunkerton, Chad Smith of Fredericksburg, Darren Westendorf of Eldora; one sister-in-law, Audrey Westendorf of Janesville.
