Alice M. Klassen, age 83, of New Hampton, IA passed away on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at New Hampton Nursing and Rehab after a courageous battle with cancer.
A private mass of Christian burial, per Alice’s wishes, will be held at Holy Family Parish in New Hampton with Father Brian Dellaert celebrating the mass. Burial will be held at St. Boniface Cemetery in Ionia, IA.

Alice Marie was born January 12, 1937, the daughter of Florence and Frances (Laube) Harrington in Plainfield, IA. Her family later moved to rural Nashua where Alice attended country school and graduated from Nashua High School. On April 23, 1956, Alice was united in marriage to Francis L. Klassen at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Nashua. For a brief period, Alice and Francis lived in Peoria, IL before returning to the Ionia area to purchase their farm. The couple welcomed four children: Donna, Deb, Linda and Mike. Alice and Francis worked side by side throughout the years working the land, milking cows, and raising various livestock. She always had a moment to share with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alice always enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was getting her hands dirty in the garden, doing chores, or wearing out push lawn mowers. She also enjoyed going out with family, coffee with friends, listening to music, bicycling and walking. Alice was a member of Holy Family Parish.
Those left to cherish Alice’s memory are her children: Donna (Mickey) Baltes of North Washington, IA, Deb (Mike) Huegel of Winona, MN, Linda (Kevin) Byrnes of Riceville, IA and Mike Klassen of Ionia, IA; her grandchildren Emily (DJ) Schueth of New Hampton, IA, Justin Huegel of Winona, MN, Brian (Cait Bambenek) Huegel of Schenectady, NY, Zachary (Kelsey) Byrnes of Ankeny, IA, Garrett Byrnes, US Navy, stationed at Gulfport, MS, and Cole Byrnes of Riceville, IA; her great-grandchildren McKenna, Donny, McKinley and Isabella; her brothers Paul and Bob Harrington; sister Rosemary Zwanziger; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis; her sisters: Theresa, Eileen, Catherine; her brothers: Norb, Jim and Richard.
