The K&K Gardens Quilt Show Extravaganza held June 21 was successful in raising money for the American Red Cross.
“This success is not only attributed to the beautiful weather we experienced, but also for the incredible quilters who allowed us to showcase their works of art and creativity,” said Owner Keith Kovarik.
More than 125 quilt pieces were uniquely displayed throughout the perennial gardens. Some displays contained a tiki bar, a miniature fire engine, a Model A collector car, antique and heirloom quilting accessories and many more. Attendees of the show donated $300 and K&K Gardens matched the contributions.
“The main purpose of this year's quilt show was to raise money for the American Red Cross in support of the Iowa flood and tornado victims. These unfortunate events have affected everyone. Even us,” said Kovarik. “With the generosity of contributers and K&K Gardens matching funds, $600 was raised. All of this will be used to assist Iowa flood and tornado victims.”
One victim of the recent disasters told Kovarik about her experience.
“We had people from all over the area. Most from far away. I had one woman from New Hartford, who asked to speak with me privately. Her house was first damaged by the tornado. Then two weeks later, it was totally flooded. She had pictures, and they were awful,” Kovarik said. “This woman thanked me profusely for raising money for her cause. She couldn't believe a small business in a small town would even think about helping people in a different community.”
