The trial of a New Hampton man charged with the murder of a Charles City resident has been set for Aug. 5.
Richard Gilbert Cortez, 42, is charged with the first-degree murder of Kenyon D. Armstrong, 28. Cortez entered a plea of not guilty on Monday.
Cortez was arrested at Tori’s Bar & Grille, 700 Riverside Drive on May 17 after police responded to reports of a bar fight and then found Armstrong laying on the ground outside. The Charles City man was later pronounced dead at Floyd County Medical Center.
Court documents indicate Armstrong and a 17-year-old male, whose identity has not been released, were stabbed.
Cortez is also charged with two counts of willful injury, two counts of attempted murder, interference with official acts, public intoxication and assault on a peace officer.
