They very nearly ran out of room on the scoresheet as New Hampton and South Winn baseball took their July 2 game to the tenth inning before the Chickasaws scored the tiebreaker to win 4-3. The JV had more breathing room, winning 9-2.
New Hampton had taken a 3-0 lead in the first but the Warriors put up two runs in the second and one in the third and the game remained tied at the end of regulation. Tanner Weigel singled to start the tenth frame, pinch runner Rhett Wuchter was sacrificed to second by Landers and Taylor Hopp pounded an RBI single. The Chickasaws left the bases loaded, but one run would be all it would take.
Garrett Hogeland had pitched nine innings, although he was still in control on the mound, he had thrown well over 100 pitches and was relieved by Brad Kamrath. Kamrath pitched one inning and struck out two batters. Hogeland struck out seven with no walks and eight hits, all three runs were earned. There was only one error in the 10 innings.
At the plate Ryan Kramer, Hopp and Weigel all singled twice and Kamrath laced a double.
A triple by Blayne Willadsen was the big hit in the JV game, he drove in three in the fifth inning with the hit. Weigel followed with a double to drive in Willadsen, he was 2 for 3 for the game. Garrett Shekleton was also 2 for 3 with a double, and Rhett Wuchter singled twice.
Weigel put down 10 batters on strikes in the five-inning game, allowing five hits and four walks. One of his two runs were earned.
