The Chickasaw girls ended their season with a flair as they went 4-0 in their final regular season games. They won over Charles City 12-2 and 7-2 on June 30, the next day they smoked Waukon 16-7 and 11-1.
With the four wins, the Chickasaws and Waverly-Shell Rock were both third at 11-7 in the NEIC and New Hampton’s overall record was 23-13.
In the first tilt against Charles City, the NH girls put the Comets away in six innings. Beth Anderson and Jess Schwickerath were both 2 for 3, Anderson with three RBI and Schwickerath with four. Carlie Schnoebelen doubled, Kelsey Glaser singled in two runs and Sheena Hovey scored three times, as did Taylor Moore, a courtesy runner for Anderson.
Megan Mahoney went the route on the mound, two runs were scored, neither earned. She pitched five hits with no walks and four strikeouts.
In game two the team swatted four doubles, each of them were instrumental in scoring. After Hovey and Schnoebelen singled in the first inning, Schwickerath batted both in with a double. Schnoebelen started the third inning with a double, took third on a steal and home on a passed ball, Schwickerath walked and came in on a double by Morgan Roths.
Two more runs scored in the fourth on a single by Dani Goodwin and an error on a Hovey at bat; Goodwin crossed the plate on a passed ball and Hovey on a ground out to first. One final run came in the sixth as Goodwin doubled and scored on a ground out to first.
Goodwin was 3 for 4 and Schnoebelen 2 for 4. Megan Frerichs pitched seven innings, with no earned runs, four hits, no walks and six retired on strikes.
In the 16-7 win over Waukon New Hampton trailed 6-1 after five innings. In the final two frames the NH girls amassed 16 hits and 15 runs. Schnoebelen was 4 for 5 with two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored and Hovey was 3 for 4 with three runs scored. Anderson was 3 for 5 with three RBI, Darcy Lechtenberg was 3 for 5 with a double and four RBI and Glaser doubled twice, batting in four runs.
Mahoney worked seven innings, striking out four while allowing nine hits and walking one. Six of the seven runs were earned.
The team continued to roll out the hits in game two with 14. Hovey and Lechtenberg were both 3 for 4, Lechtenberg with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI and Hovey with one double and RBI, scoring three times. Schnoebelen and Goodwin were 2 for 4, Goodwin with a run scored, Schnoebelen with a double and two RBI and Glaser went 2 for 3 with a double, run scored and two RBI.
Frerichs was credited with the win, pitching five innings and allowing no earned runs, with four hits, three K’s and no walks.
