In games on June 18 and 19, the New Hampton varsity softball team defeated South Winn and lost to Crestwood. Scores of the two match-ups were 13-2, New Hampton over the Warriors and 6-3, the loss to the Cadets.
The 13-2 win went the full seven innings, as the NH girls were only leading 5-2 after five. They scored two runs in the sixth, then used four hits and two Warrior errors to score six runs in the final frame. In all the Chickasaw girls pounded out 14 hits.
Carlie Schnoebelen led at the plate going 3 for 5 with her second home run of the season and a double, batting in four runs. Beth Anderson was also 3 for 5 with a double and three RBI and Darcy Lechtenberg singled and tripled, driving in two runs. Dani Goodwin was 2 for 4 with three runs scored and Kelsey Glaser doubled.
Megan Frerichs on the mound was backed up by a one-error defense, while SW committed four errors. Frerichs pitched the full seven, striking out six with five hits and no walks.
Against Crestwood the Cadets scored two runs in each of the third, fifth and sixth innings, so New Hampton went into the bottom of the sixth with a 6-0 deficit. Taylor Moore started the inning with a single, Carlie Schnoebelen followed with another and Sheena Hovey another. The single by Hovey scored Moore, Schnoebelen scored on a passed ball and Shannon Murray, pinch running for Hovey, came in on an error.
Schnoebelen was 2 for 3 for the game and Jess Schwickerath laced a double in the second inning.
Megan Mahoney went the route on the mound, in seven innings she struck out seven, allowing 10 hits with one walk. Four of the six runs were earned; there was one NH error.
