Nashua-Plainfield’s Tristen Brase claimed the third indvidual conference title of his wrestling career at Saturday’s Top of Iowa meet.

It’s the real deal now

N-P’s Dietz, Brase win Top of Iowa crowns; sectionals Saturday

When he’s old and gray, Tristen Brase will fondly remember what he accomplished in the winter of 2017-18, but for now, his focus is what lies ahead.

The Nashua-Plainfield senior claimed the third individual conference championship of his career when he won the 145-pound title at last Saturday’s Top of Iowa Conference meet, but truth be told, he’s got bigger fish to fry in the coming weeks, starting with this weekend’s Class 1A sectional meet in Clarksville.

“It’s kind of cool, but after last year, when I didn’t make state, I don’t want to be just a conference champion,” he said. “Ask any wrestler and they’d rather go to state than win conference. It’s just the way it is.”

Brase was one of two Huskies’ to claim Top of Iowa crowns as Brock Dietz battled through a tough bracket to win at 106 as Nashua-Plainfield finished eighth in the team standings.

Lake Mills won the meet with ease as the Bulldogs piled up 221 points, 62.5 more than runner-up Eagle Grove, and while the Huskies fell short of coach Al Frost’s goal of a top-five finish, they had plenty of bright spots.

There were, of course, the two champions.
