Ralph J. Wieling, 86, of New Hampton, died Thursday, June 19, at New Hampton Care Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, at Holy Family Parish, St. Joseph’s Center, New Hampton with Monsignor Carl Schmitt as celebrant. Ann Bennett will be organist and Joyce Shatek will be the cantor. Hymns will be “Be Not Afraid”, “Amazing Grace”, Only A Shadow”, and “Prayer of St. Francis”. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in New Hampton with grandsons Eric Wieling, Nathan Wieling, Steve Redler, Danny Redler, Rick Redler, Bill Redler, Chuck Meyer, Chris Meyer, and Jason Meyer serving as casket bearers.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Monday, June 23, at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home, New Hampton with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 6 p.m..Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Ralph J. Wieling was born on March 22, 1922 to Joseph and Frances (Bengfort) Wieling near Festina. He attended Festina school and later Ralph helped on the family farm until 1946. He was united in marriage to Magdalen Frances Myers on August 21, 1945 at St. Mary’s Church in Waucoma. After their marriage the couple farmed near Waucoma until 1973. Ralph & Magdalen then moved to New Hampton where he was employed as a security guard at Sara Lee until his retirement in 1988.
Ralph enjoyed handy man work for his friends and neighbors, dancing and traveling. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Center-Holy Family Parish, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters and Chick-A-Squares Square dancers.
Ralph is survived by his wife Magdalen; five children Mary (Dwaine) Redler of Bellevue, Neb., Janice (Jim) Meyer of Ft. Atkinson, David (Merilee) Wieling of Winterset, Susan (Denis) Tasker of Oelwein, Karen (Mark) Haugland of Duluth, Ga; 16 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and one sister Anna Janechek of Decorah.
He is preceded in death by his parents; five sisters; and one brother.
