Susan Carol (Herbert) Hammond, the wife of a former Nashua High School graduate, David Hammond, passed away at the age of 82 on Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, in Kettering, Ohio.
Susan was born on August 3, 1935 to Charles F. and Helen K. (Egermayer) Herbert in St. Louis. 
She graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.A. and a M.A. in elementary education and reading. 
Susan was a member and deacon at Fairmont Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. 
Susan was an elementary school teacher in Cedar Rapids, Germany with the US Army; and Edwin D. Smith School in Oakwood, Ohio. 
At Smith School, she was instrumental in helping the students plan and redevelop the wooded area between the school and the Wright Library. 
She also loved to travel, visiting 48 countries. Susan loved flowers, especially daffodils, and was a Master Gardener and volunteer at Cox Arboretum.
Susan is survived by her husband of 24 years, David H. Hammond, and brother, Thomas A. Herbert and his spouse, Linda L. Lampl of Tallahassee, Fla.
A special thank you to all the staff at Hospice of Dayton for the great care they gave Sue.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018, at Fairmont Presbyterian Church, 3705 Far Hills Ave, Kettering,  and a visitation followed at the church, Rev. Brian Maguire officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Fairmont Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave, Dayton, OH 45420.
