When Dr. Todd Becker was asked to be the keynote speaker at this year’s New Hampton High School Philomena Meyer Chapter of the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony, he joked that he was the only member in his family not to be a member of the Honor Society.
That changed on Nov. 10 when his daughter and New Hampton National Honor Society president, Kaylee Becker, presented her father with an honorary membership into the organization. Dr. Becker, who is a dentist in New Hampton, used dental terminology and analogy to motivate students to continue working toward their goals in life. Becker has two other children who were also inducted into the Philomena Meyer Chapter of the National Honor Society.
New Hampton inducted 19 students into the Honor Society this year. To become a member of the Philomena Meyer Chapter of the National Honor Society, students have to maintain a 3.5 GPA, demonstrate the four colors of character (white for purity, gold for excellence, purple for leadership and red for service to school and community) and participate in extracurricular school activities.
This year’s inductees were: Kiley Boeding, daughter of Dave and Barb; Alexandria Burrett, daughter of John and Denise; Kaitlyn Flick, daughter of Kevin and Lisa; Kristen Flick, daughter of Kevin and Lisa; Megan Frerichs, daughter of Scott and Lori; Kyle Hackman, son of Kenny and Janet; Tyler Hackman, son of Robert and Laurine; Brian Hageman, son of Mark and Carol; Nick Hennessy, son of Ralph and Kim; Jacob Holschlag, son of Robert and Brenda; Kaymi Lang, daughter of Steve and Julie; Kelly Larkin, son of Pete and Dee; Samantha Lau, daughter of Dennis and Michelle; Tom Mahoney, son of Phil and Mary; Nilvia Reyes, daughter of Brenda; Lauren Schwartz, daughter of Steve and Jeanne; Jessica Schwickerath, daughter of Jim and Carol; William Schwickerath, son of Mark and Teresa; and Kristin White, daughter of Dave and April.
“With honor comes responsibility as you continue through your adult life and move through society,” New Hampton High School Principal Richard Evans said.
