Fredericksburg, Iowa -

The Iowa Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of an accident Thursday, Aug. 28, at the Aveka plant in Fredericksburg.
A fire broke out about 9:40 a.m. in a dryer area at Aveka Manufacturing at 279 N. Woodward Ave.
According to Aveka Plant Manager John Anderson, employees shut the system off within minutes; however, the fire was large enough at the time to sustain itself. About 30 employees were temporarily evacuated.
Fredericksburg area fire crews responded and extinguished the flames within 15 minutes. Fire Chief Ray Ambrecht said the fire did a little damage to the spray drying unit, and no other areas of the 63,000-square-foot manufacturing facility were damaged.
The plant produces pet food, animal feed, and personal care and industrial chemicals. The company has been operating at the Fredericksburg location since 1997.
The Waterloo Courier contributed to this report.
