The trial of a New Hampton man accused of the first-degree murder of a Charles City resident has been continued.
Richard Cortez, 42, was scheduled to stand trial Tuesday, Aug. 5, for the May 17 stabbing at Tori’s Bar that left one person dead and two others injured. Kenyon Armstrong, 28, of Charles City was pronounced dead at Floyd County Medical Center after police officers found him outside of Tori’s Bar and Grille. Cyrus Riley, 23, and a juvenile whose name has not been released by law enforcement were also reportedly stabbed, according to court documents.
Cortez is charged with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of willful injury, assault on a peace officer, public intoxication and interference with official acts.
A new trial date has not yet been set.
