The community is invited to the fourth annual Jung’s Tae Kwon Do Tournament beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at New Hampton High School, 710 W. Main St.
Jung’s Tae Kwon Do of New Hampton will be raising money for Chickasaw County Community Action.
“Help us to break our goal of 600 boards in 40 minutes, and reach $2,500 in fundraising,” said Stacey Bendickson, Tae Kwon Do instructor for New Hampton Jung's Tae Kwon Do. “For the past five years, we have raised money for Community Action as our Tae Kwon Do service project.”
The board break-a-thon will be from noon until 1 p.m. Spectators will pay $3 at the door and children 12 and under pay $1. Concessions will be available throughout the tournament.
A special appearance will be made by Woo Jin Jung, a grand master in Tae Kwon Do. First, second and third place trophies will be awarded in forms. Medals will be given for sparring and board breaking.
“We will have competitors from Des Moines, Ankeny, Edgewood, Oelwein, Clinton, Monticello, Nashua, New Hampton, Cedar Rapids, Independence attending the tournament,” Bendickson said. “The tournament starts with an opening ceremony. Black Belt competitors will start with forms and board breaking after that. Then colored belts will start when Black belts are done.”
