New Hampton, Iowa -

Sewing enthusiasts and the general public are invited to a celebration at Quilter's Window. The shop was recently selected as one of the top 10 quilt shops throughout the United States and Canada.
To go along with the honor, Quilter's Window is being featured in the fall/winter edition of Quilt Sampler magazine. Shop owner Denise Sinnwell will celebrate this accomplishment from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9.
Sinnwell is the mastermind behind the featured quilt “Heritage Star,” which can be seen in the Better Homes and Gardens magazine. Sinnwell and her quilt shop is featured on pages 34-45.
The magazine, available for $6.99, also features instructions on how to make the quilt. A kit is also available for $34.
Quilter's Window has been open for three years and was a lifelong dream for Sinnwell. She started quilting in fifth grade for a history project by designing a child wearing an Uncle Sam hat on a quilting square.
Sinnwell started her professional career working in the dental profession for 13 years before going back to quilting. She worked for another quilt shop learning the stitches of the trade for a year before opening her own shop on 101 E. Main St., New Hampton.
“I didn’t want to be 65 and look back and wish I’d tried this,” she said in the magazine article.
Sinnwell has never regreted her decission. She shares her passion for quilting with others through classes and sewing groups.
The magazine honor began when Sinnwell sent in an application to Quilt Sampler. From there, she was given a couple of weeks to create her piece with help from Marty Gonzales, who was the machine quilter.
The unexpected call from Jennifer Keltner at American Patchwork and Quilting made Sinnwell anxious. After asking if this was real, Keltner answered, “Yes, but you can't tell anyone except staff and family.”
In May, the news was out and everyone could be told. Sinnwell said she appreciates the support of her customers and was happy to promote New Hampton in the magazine article.
