Kensington Place Assisted Living recently asked Mayor Darwin Sittig to sign a proclamation declaring Sept. 7-13 Assisted Living Week in New Hampton.
The theme for this year is “Filling Life with Love.”
“I urge all citizens to visit friends and loved ones who reside at these facilities and also to learn more about assisted living services and how they benefit our communities,” Sittig said reading to residents from the proclamation.

Sewing enthusiasts and the general public are invited to a celebration at Quilter's Window. The shop was recently selected as one of the top 10 quilt shops throughout the United States and Canada.
To go along with the honor, Quilter's Window is being featured in the fall/winter edition of Quilt Sampler magazine. Shop owner Denise Sinnwell will celebrate this accomplishment from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9.

The rally runs Friday through Sunday at Mikkelson Park in New Hampton. As usual several events also will take place throughout town, like the Night Light Parade down Main Street. The parade begins at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Chickasaw County annual Crop Walk set for Sept. 21
Come rain or shine, many area residents and church youths are gearing up to join in the Chickasaw County Crop Walk on Sunday, Sept. 21, in New Hampton.
The activities will begin at 1 p.m. with a short presentation by local church youth who will talk about their recent mission trips. The two-mile walk will begin and end at the United Methodist Church located at 201 N. Locust Ave. Refreshments and fellowship will follow the walk at the United Methodist Church courtesy of McDonald’s Corp., Fareway Stores Inc. and Joe’s Family Foods.

Statewide examinations for the positions of deputy assessor and city or county assessor have been scheduled for October, according to Mark Schuling, director of the Iowa Department of Revenue.
The examination for deputy assessor will be Saturday, Oct. 18, and the examination for city or county assessor will be Saturday, Oct. 25. Both exams will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. in the fourth floor conference room of the Hoover State Office Building in Des Moines.

Exploring Avenues for Getting Literate Early (EAGLE) will present “Book! Book! Book!” The program includes active participation from children during the reading of the story and hands-on activities afterward. Each family will receive a free paperback copy of “Book! Book! The highly anticipated grand opening of the new Zip’s Truck Equipment Inc. facility is creating a buzz in the nation’s towing industry and in New Hampton.

Representatives from the Iowa Governor’s Office and the Early Childhood Iowa organization will be in Charles City Sept. 4, as part of a series of statewide regional meetings.
According to the local Empowerment Coordinator Laurie Kristiansen, FMC (Floyd-Mitchell-Chickasaw) Community Empowerment will assist in hosting 55 visitors from nine different Iowa Empowerment areas. Representatives will be on hand from the following Empowerment regions: Benton, Black Hawk, Fayette/Buchanan/Delaware, Franklin/Butler/Bremer/Grundy, Hancock/CerroGordo/Worth, Howard/Winneshiek/Allamakee/Clayton, Floyd/Mitchell/ Chickasaw, Linn and Winnebago. Hospice of North Iowa, Charles City, will be offering grief seminars for those who have experienced the death of a loved one. It is recommended that participants wait at least two months after a death to attend this group. These seminars are intended to be supportive as well as provide education about the grief process. This program is open to all grievers, not just those dealing with a cancer loss.
The seven sessions, led by grief coordinators, will be held on consecutive Wednesdays beginning Sept. 17 from 5-7 p.m. at the Hospice of North Iowa office, 1003 Gilbert St., Charles City.

The time for the ribbon cutting ceremony will be 10 a.m.
A brief ceremony will precede the actual opening of the office.
