The New Horizons-Chamber Annual Golf Outing will be held Monday, July 28, at Raleigh Hill Golf & Country Club.
    Check-in is at 11:30 a.m. with a shot gun start promptly at noon. This is a mixer, so organizers will put teams together, mixing up handicaps. Golfers of every caliber are welcome.

    Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton invites area youth to join them for day camp on July 28-31.
    Age 3 to entering kindergarten will attend from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. each day. Children entering first grade through sixth grade will attend from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. Counselors from Lutheran Lakeside Bible Camp will lead the day camp with the theme "Sweet Justice." 
    Registration is $10 per child or $25 maximum per family. Forms are available at the church office, 223 S. Water, New Hampton.

    An ice cream social will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 201 N. Locust in New Hampton. Serving will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July, 20. The menu includes maidrites, hot dogs, baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad, homemade bars and eight flavors of ice cream.

    The Chickasaw County Soil and Water Conservation District and Ryan Insurance sponsored a poster con­test for fourth grade students at New Hampton Elementary.
    Under the supervision of art teacher Joyce Walter, the students created posters using the theme, “Water is Life.”

When Les and Norma Shinaberry celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in May, they received many congratulatory cards and letters. One correspondence, however, stood apart from the rest.

Living in the woods near a fire station, Charles Roe clung to hope that his life was not over. He’d struggled with alcoholism most of his life. At 56 years old, he’d been arrested 33 times. He couldn’t get over losing the woman in his life. He couldn’t find a job. He’d been through rehab after rehab. It never worked.

    God’s Kids in Action at the Adventure Fair Vacation Bible School will be held July 27-31 and is open to children entering pre-school through grade six. Those entering grades seventh and eighth are encouraged to attend, as their help is needed to guide the younger children.
    Child care will be available for the tiny tots. There will be lots of activities, crafts and games.
