Alice Grove, age 107, of New Hampton, IA, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Hampton. Funeral services for Alice will be held at 10:30 AM on Sautrday, January 26, 2019 at the Congregational United Church of Christ in New Hampton with Reverend Candraeah Carey officiating.  Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 AM prior to the church services on Saturday.  Interment will be in New Hampton Cemetery, New Hampton, IA.D. Alice Grove was born on a farm northeast of New Hampton on December 12, 1911, the daughter of Henry L and Verna (Annett) Hartman.  She attended rural schools graduating from New Hampton High School in 1930.  She worked at the telephone office and attended Normal Training School.  She taught rural country school north of New Hampton.  Alice married Glenn Grove on September 27, 1935.  They farmed together southwest of New Hampton most of their married life until moving into New Hampton in 1984.  She always had a large vegetable and perennial flower garden.  Alice enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting, and was an avid reader.  Alice was a very talented oil and china painter, painting many sets of dishes and china wear well into her 90’s.  Her home always had fresh baked goods with pie being one of her many specialties.She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, the State Federation of China Painters, and enjoyed the fellowship of the Red Hat Belles Club.  After retirement Glenn and Alice spent many winters at their home in Harlingen, TX.She remained in her own home until the age of 100 when she moved to Kensington Place Assisted Living for one year and then to New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.She is survived by one son, James (Delores) Grove and one daughter Glenda (Gerald) Laures both of New Hampton; five loving grandchildren, Steven (Denise) Grove and Scott (Brenda) Grove both of New Hampton, Suzanne (Mark) Peterson of Texas, Karen (Harold) Lantow of Fredericksburg, IA, and Debra (David) Sexton of Ridgeway, IA; 16 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great grandchildren.She is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Verna Hartman; her husband Glenn on March 4, 1991; one grandson Mark Gerald Laures; one great-granddaughter Emily Anastacia Sexton and one great-great grandson Eli James Grove.
